I’m settling my account with virgin due to the sky fiasco & crap.!! i need to keep broadband & tv?? but not a home phone as I have a mobile. Indeed various suggestions & options, ( not BT please?? ) thanks.
Well being that I am not from the UK (dreaming of moving there) I have had to do some research..
I found: broadband.co.uk which lets you search for broadband deals in your area, broadbandchoices.co.uk also does the same, and broadbandgenie.co.uk/broadband_deals.html that also does some searching for you. They all seem like you could get some useful info from these sites.

Duh, you above … Telewest has been taken over by Virgin media, who she's trying to escape from. Try Talk Talk!

What about Sky broadband, I've got it but I think you need to get at least the basic sky tv package to get it. Go to broadband.sky.com/

well to be honest i dont think your going to get a better deal then with Virgin media, you do know you save on your mobile phone too?
also with Virgin media theres no limit on the INTERNET with other companies there is
with Sky you get only so Much and need a BT phone line and think its more or less the same with others
ive been with cable/telewest/virgin media over 10 years and never had no trouble with them

If its the added tv your after and freeview isn't doing it for you then I'm afraid sky or virgin are your only options.
If its just broadband your after, this gives you way more options.
You will need a bt landline and for it to be connected (this means you have to pay around £11 line rental a month). There is no getting out of the line rental bit- I know, I have tried.
B.T will connect you for free and call an engineer round if its more complicated than normal to connect- but if its a brand new connection it could be £130.
When you have connected with you B.T Landline, you have to wait 3 months before cancelling it or pay £18 cancellation fee.
You can look up internet providers via yahoo when you type in compare broadband, or look through USWITCH.COM
Ignoring the £11 linerental payable to B.T, there are broadband offers ranging from £8.99 to £20 depending on the speed you are after and if you require unlimited downloads or if you are ok with a limit.
I think Virgin do offer a broadband package for £14.99 but the speed is 2MB as oppose to many other of their tariffs and of which you may have become accustomed to. I was also told when I called them up,they can provide this through cable and means you pay no linerental.
I personally -when B.T connect me- am thinking of joining talk talk who are the only providers I've found who you pay line rental (of £11) to, broadband of 8MB is £8.99 permonth, bringing the grand totak to £19.99 a month.
B.T has an offer of 3 months at £9.99 then the rest at £17.99 for an 18 monthg contract. You do get a free modem and it set up for free, but I'm guessing you already have a modem.
